Starting another food blog

I am starting a food blog

I'm working with a couple of people to get started publishing a blog about food and beautiful things.

“What? Why on earth would you start another blog??” I hear you saying.

Exactly this is what the Tom thing is all about. Too often we find reasons to not do things. We come up with excuses like 'everyone does that' or let other peoples eye rolling at the thought of another hipsterish food blog to stop us from doing what we want to do. Yes, I'll admit it - occasionally this kind of self censoring can be a good thing. But there's a difference between not doing something because it's a bad idea and not doing something that could achieve something because of fear.

'Fear of failure' might sound like an over the top phrase when talking about another hipster starting a food blog. But when it comes down to it, that's what has stopped me for years. I was scared my food blog would suck, and scared it would fail.

Then I realised I was looking at it the wrong way - I was focused on the thought “what if my friends find this - ill be embarrassed”. I was scared of failing despite not even knowing what success or failure looked like. So if my friends came across my blog and said anything even remotely negative, I would have accepted that as failure. The problem with that is I'm not doing it for my friends - I'm doing it because I love food!

So I'm very excited to announce that in the next few weeks there will be another food blog joining the masses. I'm proud to be working on the project, and can't wait to share it with you.

the Tom thing

the Tom thing is about doing those things that might be scary or hard and running with them. It'll be anything from encouraging others to start their food blog if they want to, to doing their first live performance to jumping out of an aeroplane. I'm already loving how much this project has changed my thinking - I hope it can change for others too.
